We know that everyone these days has to manage stress. Life is hectic, and getting more so. People with MDD have a special need for stress management.
- When you have a chronic health condition, you have probably lost something such as activities, competencies, even the ability to work. That is stressful in itself and adds to your total stress.
- Many people with MDD find that stress makes MDD worse although it can't be said to cause MDD.
- In general stress has been shown to impede the immune system which means you are more likely to get sick which is itself more stressful. Even a cold can affect MDD symptoms.
- MDD can make you feel judged by others around you and misunderstood even by family members. That increases isolation and stress.
