I moved from Colorado to Florida almost a year ago with my husband. During that time, I've been extremely stressed with no friends & family around, and feeling isolated. I've had a strange rash on my body (diagnosed as Pityriasis Rosea - which went away, but there really is no known cause/cure for this), then I got bronchitis for 2 months in Jan/Feb of '00 (coughing for almost the entire time), and have now been suffering from postnasal drip/allergies. Not a good year. Until I moved to Florida - I've been very very healthy. No doctor's visits, no illnesses - nothing!
In April of 2000, I went on a 4 day cruise with my husband to the Bahamas. I've been on a 7-day caribbean cruise a few years ago without a problem. I don't even get seasick. I didn't even feel anything even after I got off the boat. But this time, it was different. I felt perfectly fine during the cruise - except maybe I was a bit more tired/sleepy than I usually am but blamed that on the motion of the boat putting me to sleep. Other than that, I was fine - until I got off the ship. I told my husband that I still felt like I was on the boat - that I feel like I'm moving back and fourth. My husband told me he felt the same way, but that these symptoms should go away in a few days (sea legs).
Well it went away for my husband, but it never went away for me. I also had aches and pains in my body, and a low grade fever. I went to two different physicians while I took a trip to NY to see my parents. One doctor prescrived an anti-motion medicine which made my symptoms worse - so I quit taking that (I think it's Meclizine, - stronger form of Bonine). Another doctor said I probably have vertigo, or benine vertigo etc etc (forgot the name) and that it should go away in a month or two - and told me to get Advil Sinus for my sinus congestion to see if that will relieve my imbalance. I asked if I had an ear infection - but he said he couldn't see any infection. He gave me samples of Claritin-D (since I was having allergy symptoms at that time) and surprisingly, Claritin-D took away the body aches & pains, and it seemed to have lightened my dizziness some!! I felt great while I was taking Claritin-D, but the dizziness slowly came back when I was off this medication. My body ache came back as well.
I am most comfortable when I am moving (in a car driving or in a passenger's seat), walking or when I am in bed watching TV. I am dizziest when I look down and try to write/type (as I am doing right now) and when I'm standing still (I feel my body swaying front and back, back and front when I stand still).
I have not seen another doctor yet - since I am in the middle of switching physicians. I highly doubt that he would know what MDD is... but I am hoping he will send me to a specialist.
